Match Reports
Dosthill U15's 4-3 Coton Green U15's
The game was approached by all at Coton Green with much trepidation. This followed a very slow start to the season with fitness and lack of match practice a very telling factor in our previous games. With this in mind all the lads seemed to be convinced they were going to be thrashed even before a ball was kicked. We don't know whether it was reverse psychology with a collective mind set of "What the Hell" or Mike's managerial words of wisdom and tactical knowledge, I suspect it was a bit of both, but after about 5 mininutes of Dosthill pressure we started to contest the game and suddenly began to win 50/50 balls we were starting to challenge for. We soon got the upper hand and when Chad Aspinall made a forcefull run through the left side of midfield to cross to the far post, splitting their defence for Jordan Powell to slot home from close range, but with his RIGHT FOOT, we knew something magical was happening. It certainly proved that way 5 minutes later when the game had to and froed a little, a move from our half which seemed to involve about six crisp accurate passess, saw Brandon Humphston come through from mid field to get onto the final killer pass and finish with extreme coolness. The lads suddenly were believing in themselves and everyone to a man were doing their job, winning second ball, contesting every challenge, chaseing back when needed and keeping their shape. With play and belief like this it was no wonder we got a third before half time. The persistance of Liam Shiner, who just would not give up on anything, saw him seal a first half GREAT TEAM PERFORMANCE with a well taken goal from close in after battling a crowd of defenders to ensure he got to the ball which went in at the third attempt, they could not shake him off.
The second half started as the first to-ing and fro-ing for the first 5 mins. They got a free kick inside our half on the left, sent the ball in, we headed clear and pushed up or nearly all of us did. Classic mistake a defender slow to move up played two of their players on side and they pulled one back. You would have thought they had just won the F.A. Cup, the way they celebrated that one. A mention for LIAM CHAMBERLAIN and what must have been the save of the weekend in any level of football, if not the season, can not go un-reported. He leaped to his far left hand corner to push over a blistering shot fom the edge of the box, which was arowing into the top corner, a certain goal from where we were standing. We still had chances but their game did step up from their performance in the first half. The football cliche of its a game of two halves certainly applied to this game. Dosthill then got back into the game with an unfortunate own goal from our rock solid centre half & captain, George Osborne Still our heads did not slump but our fitness started to tell. What appeared to be another own goal and a wicked deflection sealed the win for Dosthill. We had put them under the cosh and they knew it, they celebrated their fortunate win with great relief and even their Manager felt we deserved to WIN not even draw with the way we performed, he said after the game. With spirit like that and continuing improvement in fitness, along with the confidence that performance should bring, the rest of the season looks promising
Coton Green U15's 0-3 Austrey Rangers U15's
The top of the table teams are coming thick and fast. This week it was our turn to face a team that rumour had it "Had not lost a game for 3 years" and were top of the league for like forever, according to the lads. Well into the game we went and it soon appeared that we were again somewhat over-awed by the opposition, who also seemed to be a somewhat physical side and they seemed to have most of the play. They scored after 7 minutes with a well worked move which involved plenty of passing but with not many challenges going in. One nil down and looking at an uphill struggle. Then more and more decided to give it a go and at least start to challenge for the ball. We even had a shot on goal after 18 minutes when Jordan Powell collected a through ball from Chad Aspinal in the inside left channel and fired on target from outside the box, unfortunately straight at their keeper. The real story of this game then unfolded. A long punt forward by them was collected by Liam Chamberlain easily well ahead of their on rushing player who continued on into Liam, un-necessarily in my opinion, he could and should have veered off. A sickening collision occurred with the on rushing forward's head striking Liam in the chest. This caused Liam to not only be winded but to become unconscious. An ambulance was called and Liam remained on the ground with both managers comforting him and administering what first aid they could till the ambulance arrived. This resulted in a very long delay. Liam had come round before the ambulance arrived but obviously had to remain motionless on the ground, as per the instructions from the Ambulance centre on the phone. He was checked out by the paramedics and observations were taken by them when they arrived. They did not feel he was critical but would need to taken to Good Hope to be checked over, which is what happened and THANKFULLY only suffered bruising and winding and was released later that day. BACK to the game!!!!!!!!! Chris Whitehouse "volunteered" to go between the sticks, having been mad enough in a previous life to do a bit of keeping as a youngster. Well what with all the upset and a stand in keeper we all again feared the worst!!!! NOT a Bit of it. The lads knew they would be under the cosh and seemed to rise to the challenge, in defending that is. They fought a great rear guard action and managed to keep the score to just 0-1 for the first half, with Chris making some unorthodox saves with every part of his body except his hands, it seemed to us.Also their lack of clinical finishing helped.I know Liam wont appreciate this, but now I know he is on the mend, CHRIS kept a clean sheet for longer than liam did in this game.He even pulled off a LIAM like save in the second half which slightly resembled last weeks save of the season by Liam, where he pushed a goal bound shot away from the top right hand corner.
Half time came and with it a new belief that we perhaps could not only keep the score down, despite our difficulties, but maybe even get a draw or dare we think it a win. It was good to hear the lads talk in such a fashion. Again we weathered the early storm and began to defend like men possessed. Even when they scored their second our heads did NOT go down and we seemed to respond even more and challenged for everything. We managed more sorties into their half and Liam Shiner battled long and Hard with their centre halves and was unlucky not to be clean through on goal a few times. This caused them to show more respect and continued their own disciplined defence. Battling became our by word and every effort was going in, not only in unbelievable defending but also throughout the side, even resulting in Jordan Powell having to come off to receive treatment for a bloody nose.We fought long and hard throughout the second half and did not appear to tire until the very end when their third and final goal only went in after what appeared to be at least 5 shots being charged down, blocked, got in the way of and thrown body in front of before it finally found the back of the net.
With spirit like we showed throughout the game and a belief in ourselves which will come!!!! with performances like that and last weeks, we will soon get the winning way and start to shoot up the table. We have the skill and team spirit, we just need to put it together!!!!!!!!!!! Another battling performance and the Lads should be justifiably proud of keeping the league leaders to just 3 goals (and the last one should have been cleared). To end on a positive note, LIAM CHAMBERLAIN is not seriously hurt and is recovering. It is hoped that I will be able to report an injury free LIAM game soon and no doubt a WIN.
